Wise Or Foolish Virgin?

May 13, 2018

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.  Five of them were foolish and five were wise.  The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.  The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.  The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.  “At midnight the cry rang out: Here’s the bridegroom!  Come out to meet him!”  “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.  The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’  ” ‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both of us and you.  Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’  “But while they were on the way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived.  The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.  And the door was shut.  “Later the others also came.  ‘Sir!  Sir!’ they said.  ‘Open the door for us!’  “But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’  “Therefore keep watch , because you do not know the day or the hour.”

-Matthew 25:1-13

In this rapture parable Jesus speaks of 5 wise and 5 foolish virgins who all went out to meet the bridegroom…  The wise and foolish virgins are symbolic of us and the bridegroom is symbolic of Jesus!  So we have the ability to choose which kind of virgin we want to be, either wise or foolish!  In order to figure out the meaning behind this parable, we must notice the distinct similarities and the differences between the two types of virgins.  First, all the virgins had lamps and took them to meet the bridegroom.  So the lamps stand for something general that everyone alive in the flesh has, which represents our soul.  The foolish virgins took their lamps, but they did not take any oil with them, while the wise took oil in jars along with their lamps.  Thus, the main distinguishing factor between these two types of virgins was the oil!  So the oil must represent something quite significant!  And it does!  The oil represents the Holy Spirit that we must be filled up with!  In order to completely understand the importance of the oil (Holy Spirit), we must ask ourselves the question:  What does the oil in a lamp maintain or keep going?  You guessed it!  A flame or fire!  Without the oil, the fire goes out!  And what does a fire or flame allow us to do?  A fire or flame emits light that allows us to see in the dark!  So as we are walking along in this dark world, we must have the fire burning and shining brightly so that we may see where we are going spiritually!  Without the fire lit, we cannot see!  Now that we realize the Holy Spirit stands for the oil, we must know that the Holy Spirit is God living on the inside of us and that it is key in keeping the flame of passion for God burning so that we might not just see physically, but spiritually as well!  The wise virgins had the oil!  The wise virgins had the Holy Spirit!  And without it, we cannot make it into heaven, because Jesus plainly stated to the foolish virgins without the oil, “I tell you the truth, I do not know you.”  The only ones that Jesus knows are the ones who have God living on the inside of them through the Holy Spirit!  And the Holy Spirit is something that cannot be bought or sold… It is absolutely free and it is available to you today!  Do you want to be the wise virgin who makes it into heaven with Jesus or the foolish virgin who gets the door of heaven slammed in their face?  Accept Jesus into your heart today and ask the Lord to baptize you (fill your jar up and overflowing) with the Holy Spirit so that you will be one of the wise virgins that makes it into heaven on rapture day!
