Holy Spirit Origin Of Prophecy

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.  Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation.  For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

– 2 Peter 1:19-21

Here we read where Peter was describing the prophets of the Lord God and he called on people to believe all that they had written in the scriptures, comparing what they had to say to a light shining in the darkness!  The Most Important thing that Peter wanted people to understand is that no prophecy of Scripture came about by any of the prophet’s own interpretation!  So what Exactly was Peter trying to say here??  Basically, that nothing about the prophets influenced what was being spoken through them by God.  EVERYTHING they said came straight from God, not them!  Not even the prophet’s own interpretation of what God was saying through them influenced the prophecy of Scripture!  Why??  Peter explained that prophecy NEVER had its origin in the will of man!  So that means that the origin of prophecy could ONLY be out of the will of God no matter if it was spoken out of the mouth of a prophet or written by the prophet’s hand!  Even Peter went on to say that men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit!  So the origin of prophecy was NEVER in the will of man, Rather the origin of prophecy is the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit IS God!  Now that is POWERFUL!!!  Knowing that the origin of prophecy is 100 percent led by God, that makes the words written by the prophets in scripture More Certain, just like Peter said!  We know we can trust what the prophets wrote because it was All led by God!  What confidence and assurance we have in God’s Powerful Eternal Word by this Holy Spirit origin of prophecy!!
