Fishers Of Men

Fishers Of Men

October 17, 2018

As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew.  They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”  At once they left their nets and followed him.  Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John.  They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets.  Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

– Matthew 4:18-22

Is the Lord calling you to be a fisher of men?  You have been saved, baptized, and filled with the Holy Spirit, and now you are tuning into the Lord’s voice through the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit keeps confirming to you that you are called to minister to people in a particular way, but you feel like you are stuck doing what you are doing with your life right now.  You have a full-time career or a job and you don’t know that you are ready to take that leap of faith for the Lord just yet because you do not know how to do what the Lord is telling you to do.  How do you do what the Lord is calling you to do full-time?  When Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon Peter and his brother Andrew fishing by a lake and he called out to them saying, “Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”  At once Simon Peter and Andrew left their nets and followed Jesus!  And going farther, Jesus saw James and John – the sons of Zebedee- in a boat with their father preparing their nets and he called to them as well and Immediately they left the boat and their father to follow Jesus!  Did you notice that ALL of the first disciples called by Jesus left their boat and their nets, which was their livelihood, as well as their family to follow Jesus?!!  They left Absouletly EVERTHING behind to follow Jesus!  Also, did you notice that none of the disciples hesitated when Jesus called them to follow him and become fishers of men?  They ALL left their boats Immediately!  They didn’t have time to mull it over or think about it… they just threw down everything they had to take up the calling Jesus gave them!  Isn’t that the same way that we should be today?  If the Lord has called you to do something for him, but you waste all your time trying to mull over how to do it, then you are never going to make it out of the boat!  If you are concerned about how to do what you are called to do for the Lord full-time, then take it to the Lord and he will reveal to you precisely how to do it!  Yet, just know that thinking about it way too much is only going to prevent you from taking that leap of faith!  And trust me, the enemy will also try to bring doubt in to prevent you from following the Lord’s calling on your life!  But do not listen to the enemy, do not listen to all the doubt, and do listen to anyone or anything else keeping you from fulfilling God’s purpose for your life because it is the BEST decision you will ever make!  Take the leap of faith!  Get out of the boat!  Follow Jesus and he will make YOU a Fisher of Men!
