Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“Is this your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
“Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
“You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You are right in saying that I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
“What is truth?” Pilate asked.
With this he went out again to the Jews and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”
They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!”
– John 18:33-40
Here we read the actual account of where Jesus (Yeshua) was examined by the Roman govenor Pilate right before Passover! And this is significant in understanding why Jesus (Yeshua) is called the Lamb of God as well as The King of the Jews! You see, according to God’s command in Exodus 12:3-5, the head of every Jewish family was to set apart a young male lamb from their flock on Nisan 10 to be examined for blemishes up to the day of Passover on Nisan 14. This meant that if any blemishes were found, it would disqualify the lamb as a proper offering! And in the same way, Jesus (Yeshua) was arrested by the chief priests and teachers of the law on Nisan 10 in Luke 22:66-71 where he was held for 4 days to be inspected up to the day of Passover on Nisan 14. Jesus (Yeshua) was brought before King Herod as well as Pilate, the Roman govenor, and here we read where Jesus (Yeshua) was found to be innocent! Even Pilate announced to the crowd of people that he found no basis for a charge against him! And the reason why is because Jesus (Yeshua) was not just innocent, he was the Perfect Spotless Lamb of God! Furthermore, according to God’s command, during the afternoon of Nisan 14 all the lambs from every Jewish household were to be sacrificed by the entire assembly and each family was to apply the blood of their own lamb to their own doorposts to prove their faith in God’s deliverance! Now why did the Jewish families have to cover their dooposts with the blood of the lamb in order to prove their faith in God’s deliverance? Because the blood of the lamb they covered their doorposts with stood for the blood of the Perfect Spotless Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world – Jesus, Yeshua HaMashiach! What else and Who else could this stand for?!! How else could the Immortal and Everlasting God in heaven deliver his mortal people on earth from all sin for all time if he did not somehow become mortal himself through his son to take our place on the cross?!! Jesus (Yeshua) IS the Lamb of God and he is Most Assuredly The King of The Jews! Are YOU on the side of Truth??
