Devoted To God’s Word

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

– Deuteronomy 11:18-21

After reading this scripture, can you honestly say that you are devoted to God’s word?  I would say that many of us fall short of this kind of devotion shown in Deuteronomy where the Lord called his people Israel to a Whole New Level of commitment to his commands before they were to enter the Promised land!  And what Exactly did the Lord call on them to do??  To FIX his words in their hearts and minds!  To TIE them as symbols upon their hands and BIND them on their foreheads!  WOW!!!  God wanted his people to have his Word and know his Word so much that he wanted it Written on them and Deeply Engraved within them!  Furthermore, the Lord commanded his people to TEACH his word to their children by talking about it ALL the time so that his word would be Deeply Engrained within them!!  Now, how many people can honestly say either themselves or their parents ever spoke and taught God’s Word to their children ALL the time?  I’d say not very many!  Yet that is Precisely what the Lord desired his people to do!  And going even further than that, the Lord actually wanted his people to write his word on the doorframes of their houses and on their gates!  Now, I can Most Assuredly say that there are not many people today who have God’s word written on the doorframes of their houses nor do they have his word written on their gates!  That would take a HUGE level of commitment to the Lord God for people to do something like that today!  Yet the Lord made a steadfast and trustworthy promise to his people that as long as they stayed commited to him and his word, their days and the days of their children would be numerous… as many days that the heavens remain above the earth!  Hallelujah!  That same promise is for YOU today!!  Will you choose to stay devoted to God’s Word?
