The Greatest Treasure

The Greatest Treasure

While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.  When the disciples saw this, they were indignant.  “Why this waste?” they asked.  “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”  Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman?  She has done a beautiful thing to me.  The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.  When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.  I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

– Matthew 26:6-13

Is Jesus (Yeshua) your Greatest Treasure??  There are many people who claim that they are serving the Lord by doing this and that in his name or placing their money in an offering plate every Sunday morning, but are those things really drawing you closer to Jesus (Yeshua)?  Are those things building your relationship with him??  You see, the Lord desires to have an Intimate Personal Relatonship with you and that involves speaking with each other constantly!  And how can you do that??  By the Holy Spirit!  The way to remain in consant communication with the Lord is by praying in the Holy Spirit!  The only way to remain in Jesus’ (Yeshua’s) love is by praying in the Holy Spirit and walking by the Holy Spirit – obeying whatever the Lord shows you to do for him!  Do we really think that Jesus (Yeshua) needs our money??  No Way!  He does not need one red cent from us because he created Everything!  All he desires is for you to stay in tune with him through the Holy Spirit, listen to his voice, and do everything he tells you to do for him!  That’s all!  And if you truly love Jesus (Yeshua), then you will desire to do what he tells you to do for him!  Constantly filling up every ounce of our time doing things in the name of the Lord, but not really knowing if he truly desires you to do that for him, is pointless!  It is Best to know exactly what the Lord desires for you to do for him!  And the only way to know exactly what he wants you to do for him is by speaking to him through the Holy Spirit!  When the woman in this scripture poured out the expensive bottle of perfume on Jesus (Yeshua), his disciples disdained her for doing it, thinking that she could have sold it for a high price and given the money to the poor.  The disciples thought the woman had wasted the expensive perfume on Jesus (Yeshua), yet what the disciples didn’t realize is that they were unintentionally placing higher value on the poor instead of Jesus (Yeshua)!  Even though the disciples had all good intentions of helping the poor, they were not placing enough value on Jesus (Yeshua)!  Even Jesus (Yeshua) defended the woman saying she had done a beautiful thing for him and that the poor would always be around, but he would not!  Jesus (Yeshua) even stated that what she did for him would be perpetuated throughout history along with the gospel!  And so it has!  Let us Always remember that Jesus (Yeshua) IS the Greatest Treasure!
