He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
– Luke 4:16-21
Can you believe that this scripture written by the prophet Isaiah was actually fulfilled when Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach) came?!! Hallelujah! In fact, as he was standing in the Jewish synagogue in Nazareth on the Sabbath day reading the scroll that the prophet Isaiah wrote, the eyes of every person in the synagogue were fastened on him! Little did they know that their Jewish Messiah, Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach), was standing right in front of them fulfilling the very words prophesied by Isaiah numerous generations before he was even born! I don’t know about you, but I think that is absolutely AMAZING!!! And the only way that it was possible for Isaiah to prophesy about Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach) before he even came into existence is through God’s Holy Spirit! God revealed to Isaiah what would actually happen in the future through the Holy Spirit! Even when Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach) spoke, he said, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me…” That same Holy Spirit is the one who not only gave Isaiah the prophet the precise words to say in their appropriate time, but also brought Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach) into the world to speak those very same words at the exact time of their fulfillment! Isn’t God AWESOME?!! We have a Messiah who was anointed by God to preach the good news to the poor, to proclaim freedom for prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor! And as Jesus (Yeshua HaMashiach) sat down, he began by saying, “Today, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing…” Is the Spirit of the Lord on YOU??
